Stormy Weather Possible in Brownwood Area Friday Afternoon and Evening

Friday 1/10/2020

Showers with a few thunderstorms are forecast to develop in the Brownwood area between 1 and 3 o’clock this afternoon. McCulloch, San Saba, Mills, Comanche and Eastland counties are also in the development zone for storms early to mid-afternoon.

By 4 to 5 pm today, a rapidly developing line of thunderstorms is forecast to stretch from roughly Mineral Wells to Goldthwaite moving toward the east, northeast. Some of these storms may turn severe with damaging winds and hail.

By 6 o’clock this evening, a second area of showers and storms is forecast to develop from near Brownwood southward to San Antonio. This line will join the first line and form a linear squall line stretching along Interstate 35 from Austin to Waco to DFW and from there through southeast Oklahoma into northwest Arkansas between 6 and 10 pm.

Light showers will be possible in the Brownwood area until about 10 o’clock tonight.

Brownwood remains on the western edge of this storm system. The worst weather should remain east of our area along I-35 and I-45 as indicated on the map. DFW, Texarkana and Longview are cities where the threat is greatest.

A strong cold front will then arrive in the Coleman/Cross Plains/Brownwood area between 9 pm and midnight tonight. Temperatures will be hovering around 32 degrees by sunrise on Saturday morning. Northwest wind overnight tonight will be between 15 and 25 mph.

Saturday will be a cold day. There may also be some light snow flurries in the air early Saturday morning in our area but the better chance for a light snow shower is along I-20 east and west of Abilene. Any precipitation ends early in the day with sunny skies returning Saturday afternoon. High temperature on Saturday will be near 50 in Brownwood with wind chill in the 20’s Saturday morning and 30’s Saturday afternoon.

Weather goes downhill again the middle of next week as the first of three shots of much colder air arrive in Central Texas on Wednesday night. January 16 through 22 is forecast to be much colder.
