Lyndon Clayton Myrick, 78, of Brady

Lyndon Clayton Myrick, 78, passed away Monday, January 11th, 2021 at Heart of Texas Healthcare System in Brady, TX due to complications from a recent stroke.  Lyndon was born December 27th, 1942 in Brady TX to Clayton Ernest and Maurie (Swank) Myrick.  He was raised and attended grade school in Brady and graduated from Brady High School in 1961.  A unique story from Lyndon’s 6th birthday made the San Antonio Express newspaper on Thursday morning, December 30th, 1948.  The Newspaper reported “Monday was ‘hospital day’ for the Clayton Myrick family of Brady.  Early that morning Mrs. Myrick gave birth to an 8-pound, 13-ounce baby boy in Brady Hospital.  Papa Myrick wasn’t pacing the floor in customary expectant father fashion.  Instead, he was a few doors down the hall.  He had a broken leg (a horse had fallen on it).  He’d been in the hospital since the previous Thursday.  There was nothing a’tall the matter with another young Myrick son.  He was at the hospital too; however, visiting and celebrating his sixth birthday.  All—mother and new son, father and his broken leg, and the six-year-old Myrick—were reported ‘doing just fine’.”  After graduating high school, Lyndon attended Tarleton State College and Angelo State College.  Lyndon worked for the highway department in his early years but spent most of his life self-employed as a contract ranch hand as well as ranching and managing livestock of his own.  He married Linda Sue Taylor on January 3rd, 1964 in Brady.  Lyndon and Linda were married 43 years before her passing in 2007.  Lyndon was blessed with an “old soul” and probably could have fit right in during the late 1800’s.  In addition to being a good cowboy and ranch hand, he was also a proficient hunter, fisherman, and cook as well as a skilled marksman and gunsmith.  Lyndon had a fascinating engineer’s mind and was an exceptionally gifted artist.  He could take things he would find such as old pieces of mesquite wood, deer antlers and horseshoes and visualize a design and create beautiful pieces of art and furniture.   Lyndon was a truly interesting and talented man who will be missed.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 14th at Bethel Cemetery in Katemcy with Reverend Bun Jackson officiating.  Lyndon Myrick will lie in state Wednesday, January 13, 2021 from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels.  Friends may view and/or sign Lyndon’s online memorial guest book at www.leatherwoodmemorialchapels.com.

Lyndon is survived by his brother Barry Alan Myrick; nephew, Richard Myrick and wife, Patti; niece, Jaime Myrick White and husband, Judd, and their 2 children; niece, Becky Taylor Carl and husband, Gilbert, and their 4 children and 6 grandchildren.  Lyndon was preceded in death by his wife, mother and father.
