She was born Velma Lee Stalcup on June 28, 1931 in Cotton Center, TX to Harvey Ernest and Verna Belle Neff Stalcup.  Velma Lee was raised in Cotton Center and graduated from Cotton Center High School.  She and her siblings grew up on a farm where they all learned to work hard and together as a team.  All the photos of the family show them laughing and loving together.  On July 17, 1954 she married the love of her life, William (Willie) Martin Sisemore.  They were married at her parents’ home in Cotton Center, TX.  Following their marriage the couple moved to Plainview where they farmed and celebrated thirty-five years of marriage. Willie preceded her in death in 1989. In June 2007 she moved to Coleman, TX to be close to family leaving her long-time home and farm.

Velma Lee was never blessed with children of her own but her happy personality kept her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews surrounding her all the time.  Everyone thought of her as the matriarch of the family.  Her stories of the family will pass the family history onto future generations.  For that the family will be eternally grateful.

Velma Lee was not only a great farmer and housewife, she had many other talents.  She was an exceptional western artist.  She painted in oils, acrylics, ink, and pencil.  She was so talented she was invited to New York City to show her artwork.  There she meet Gunsmoke’s Festus (Ken Curtis) who proceeded to purchase artwork.  Her paintings grace the walls of her family and friends.  Velma Lee always had a dog with her.  Through her life she shared her truck seat, tractor seat, cotton trailer, and her chair with her beloved dogs.  She was an avid flower gardener having beautiful blooms surrounding her as long as a shovel could be pushed in the ground.  She could crochet and sew.  She was truly talented.  Velma Lee was a member of the Baptist Church.

Velma Lee is survived by her sister Marie Stalcup and her sister-in-law June Stalcup both of Coleman, TX, her sister-in-law Yvonne & Bob Simcox, her brother-in-law Bobby and Betty Sisemore of Kress, TX and brother-in-law Tommy and Gayle Sisemore of Robert Lee, TX. She is also survived by niece Judy Stalcup Aerdts and her husband René of Plano, TX, niece Deborah Cox and her husband Garry of Coleman, TX, niece Donna Crofford and her husband David of Scottsdale, AZ, nephew David Stalcup and his wife Glacia of Coleman, TX and niece Cherry Parks and her husband Randy of Lingleville, TX.  In addition, there are the great and great-great nieces and nephews too many to list.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Harvey Ernest and Verna Belle Neff Stalcup, her brothers Leonard and Billy Stalcup, and niece Cassandra Kay Parks of Lingleville, TX.  There are so many family members and friends who celebrate Velma Lee’s life and feel a lasting loss in her passing, and she will be forever missed for her lively stories, her passion for westerns, and her love of every family member.
