By a unanimous vote, Brown County Commissioners passed a Resolution Monday morning reaffirming the Court’s dedication to the State and Federal constitutions and protection of individual freedoms making Brown County a constitutional county. There was a large contingent of supporters of the constitution in attendance at the meeting. Around 35 crowded inside Commissioners Courtroom and at least that many more stood in the hall of the courthouse watching the proceedings on a large television showing a live stream of the meeting.
Group spokesman Rusty Howell was very happy with the passage of the Resolution.
“What they just did is just reaffirm for us who we can trust in elected positions. This is just like putting the constitution in front of everybody to say hey, will you join our founding fathers in that document because even though they took an oath, so did our current federal government. They took an oath to serve and protect but we see this overreach going on and really feel like that, you know, the best government is the government closest to the people that has a pulse on what they’re doing,” Howell said.
He is also hopeful that other cities will follow suit and pass a similar resolution.
“Cities doing constitutional cities is important because a house divided can’t stand. That’s kind of the next step in all of this, let’s get the cities on board with it as well so that in our community, in Brown County, we know we’re in a unified passion for protecting our rights here locally, I mean we have to do that,” Howell said.
Howell said he has asked the City of Brownwood to put this same Resolution on the City Council agenda for their October 26th meeting.
