Jackie E. Hammonds, 84, of Coleman

Jackie E. Hammonds, age 84, of Coleman, died Thursday, November 10, 2022, at his residence.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial service 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 3, 2022, at North Coleman Baptist Church, 515 Church Street in Coleman, with Rev. Jeff Dean officiating.  A private interment was held at the Coleman City Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.

He was born Jackie Eugene Hammonds on March 17, 1938, in Coleman to Dan Hammonds and Iva Wesson Hammonds.  He grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School.  Jackie proudly served in the United States Army Reserve.  He married Jettie Virginia Beard August 29, 1959, and she preceded him in death on August 9, 1979.  He then married Carolyn Lee Middleton on October 3, 1980, at the Community Baptist Church in Coleman.  Together, Jackie and Carolyn joined two families as one. Jackie served as a volunteer firefighter for the Coleman Fire Department for many years.  He worked for the City of Coleman for over 28 years.  Jackie spent many hours restoring an old firetruck for the Coleman Fire Department. He loved his family and community and was a devout member of North Coleman Baptist Church.

Jackie is also preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Iva Hammonds; infant daughter, Jackie Ann Hammonds; one daughter, Pamela June Hammonds Baker; and three sisters, Pat Kutzer, Iva Dell Elkins, and Virginia Gandy.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Hammonds of Coleman; two daughters, Michelle Allcorn and husband Jimmy Don of Coleman, Terrie Eldred and husband George of Coleman; honorary daughter, Judy Caldwell and husband Mike of Coleman; one son, Johnnie Cecil Midddleton, III, of Abilene; three brothers, Danny Hammonds and wife Teresa of Coleman, David Hammonds and wife Rosie of Colorado, and James Hammonds and wife Judy Gail of Coleman; one sister, Judy Rylee of Dallas; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and so many friends who dearly loved him.

The family kindly asks that no floral arrangements be sent.  Memorials are suggested to North Coleman Baptist Church, 515 Church Street, Coleman, Texas 76834 or to Coleman Home Health and Hospice, 115 West Street, Coleman, Texas 76834.
