Man Charged with Assault Family Violence Impeding Breathing

The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Tuesday morning:

On Saturday, May 20, at approximately 11 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of Magnolia regarding a report of a domestic disturbance at the apartment complex.

When officers arrived, they observed a group of people standing outside the apartment in question. Officers entered the apartment through the open front door and identified the subjects involved in the fight.

Officers learned that 28-year-old Gabriel Adam Martinez was intoxicated and attempted to fight several subjects inside the residence. It was believed that Martinez felt disrespected by his girlfriend while helping other family members earlier in the day. As they returned to his apartment, Martinez began arguing, then fighting, with his girlfriend. His mother’s boyfriend then attempted to intervene and was subsequently assaulted by Martinez.

Martinez was arrested for Assault/Family Violence impeding breathing of a Family Member as well as Assault (simple) Against a Family Member. Due to lacerations to his head/face. Martinez was transported to the Hendrick-Brownwood Hospital for treatment prior to being transported to the Brown County Jail.

According to Brown County online jail records, bonds total $14,500.
