The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for the American Legion Post 196 on Thursday, May 25, 2023. The Post’s correct address, as shown on their building, is 1600 Burnett Drive.

The American Legion Post 196 has been recently remodeled to offer more to the Veterans in our community including computer classes, counseling as well as their monthly meetings on the second Tuesdays of the month at 6pm. Commander of Post 196, Captain Paul Wade spoke on many goals he had about helping Veterans families in the community including scholarships for high school students that had not been tapped into. “There are 4,000 Veterans in this area with extended families, that’s 6,000. 2900 + of those are supported by the Veterans Commission…2300 additional go through the VA Clinic…We’ve got, in this town, a real presence and a willingness to help, to be involved. We just have to give them a place to do it.”

Captain Wade would like to thank several individuals and companies that have helped in the remodel: Dennard Electrical Steve Christopher, Andy’s Pest Troopers, Texas-Clean & Hank Hunter, Advantage Office Products, The Boys & Girls Club of Brown County, Tres Moving, City of Brownwood (I.T. & Parks & Rec Department), United Supermarkets, Elliott Electric, Howard Payne University, Home Depot, & Dennis Rumfield.

Captain Wade will be the Master of Ceremonies for the Memorial Day Program at the Central Texas Veterans Memorial on Monday, May 29th at 11:00 am. The public is invited to attend.
