Donald Frye Jordan, Jr., (Doc) passed away peacefully on Friday, May 26, 2023, surrounded by family. He was born on July 29, 1932 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was 90 years old.
Don moved to Brownwood as a young boy and graduated from Brownwood High School. He attended Texas A&M and was a member of the Aggie Corps of Cadets and a member of the cross-country track team. After graduating from Texas A & M in 1954, he joined the Army and was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany for two years. Following his service, he returned to Brownwood. Don met his future wife, Carol Conway, on a blind date and they were married shortly after.
He is survived by his three children, Conway Jordan of Brownwood, Julie Flaa and husband Will of Dallas, and Kelly Southard and husband Cliff of Dallas. Don was very proud of his grandchildren, Jaxon Jordan and wife Hayden of Abilene, Maggye Sitzes and husband Tyler of Abilene, Madeline Jordan of Abilene, Jordan Flaa Williams and husband Alex of Dallas, Wesley Flaa of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Sydney Southard of Dallas, and Emily Southard of Dallas. He was Great-Grandpa to Shepherd and Boston Sitzes and Sutton and Rhett Jordan.
Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife Carol of 63 years and his parents, Don Sr. and Mary Louise Jordan.
After completing his tour of duty, Don returned to Brownwood and joined the family business, Jordan Tractor Company. Upon selling the tractor business, he established Don Jordan and Associates and was a Life Insurance Specialist. He then pursued and was awarded his Certified Life Underwriter by the American College of Life Underwriters. He was awarded top agent of the year during 1973, placing more life insurance than any other agent in the Central West Texas area. Don and his father established Jordan Oil Company, where he was President and CEO, serving a seven-county area in Central Texas. He owned a number of Texaco gas stations, convenience stores, restaurants, and truck terminals.
Don loved Brownwood and was very proud of his community. In 1964, he was selected as Outstanding Man in Brownwood under 35. He was President of the Freshman League, Chairman of the March of Dimes, and the Polio Immunization Program. He was an officer for both the Jaycees and Rotary Club. Don was a member of the Texas Oil Marketers Association, the Fort Worth Chapter of CLU, and the National Oil Jobbers Council. Don loved his church and church family, serving as an Elder at the Union Presbyterian Church and later was an Usher at First Methodist Church. He was on the board at Southwest State Bank and was on the First Advisory Counsel at First National Bank.
Don was passionate about his family, friends, golf and anything Aggie. He treasured any time he could spend with his family, even if it meant driving hours to watch a three-minute race or attend a dance recital. His favorite times were when he would gather the entire family together whether it be for a holiday, a weekend or just a family dinner. He was an avid golfer and loved fishing. He rarely missed an Aggie sporting event, Aggie Muster, or a chance to gather with his Class of ’54 friends. It was rare to find him not sporting his best Aggie gear. Don had many close Brownwood friends and he and Carol were very active socially. He enjoyed playing bridge, parties, and the weekly dinner outings with friends.
The family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all of the wonderful healthcare workers who took such good care of Dad in his last years.
A family graveside service will be held Monday, June 19, at 10:00 in Eastlawn Memorial Park. A memorial service will follow in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00.
