Benjamin was born on October 27, 1938 in Georgia to Emma Mae Fowler Mitchell and Joseph Mitchell Sr. He married Jollie Mae Smith in July of 1960 in Sylvester, Georgia. Benjamin spent most of his life farming in Georgia, but at one point, he was an attendant at State Hospital in New Jersey. In retirement, he settled in the Brown and Coleman counties where he continued farming and gardening. He enjoyed reading the Bible, riding on his tractor, growing a garden; he loved growing watermelons most of all. Benjamin loved the Lord, and always put the Lord first in his life. He was a very private person, but he loved talking about the Bible to anyone who would listen. Benjamin was a member of the New Testament Holiness Church in Bangs and was also involved in KSTA Holy Bible Reading Program. He had many testimonies about the miracles God gave him throughout his lifetime.

Benjamin is survived by his children, Benjamin Mitchell Jr. of Austin, Larry Mitchell of Dallas, Shirley Mitchell Gray and husband Randy of Coleman, Gloria Mitchell and Kathey Mitchell both of Georgetown; the children’s mother, Jollie Mitchell of Georgetown; brothers, Adell Mitchell and wife Dora, Fred Mitchell and wife Morella, Robert Lee Mitchell and wife Ann, Willie James Mitchell and wife Mae, all of Trenton, New Jersey; Columbus Mitchell of Coleman, and Ananias Mitchell of Albany, Georgia; sisters, Geneva Mitchell Rush of San Antonio, Louise Mitchell Davis and husband James, and Margaret Mitchell Mathis and husband Robert Sr. of Albany, Georgia; granddaughter, Ariana Evans and husband Jonathan, and one great granddaughter, Jolie Madalynn Evans all of Round Rock.
