Matthew Howle Ferguson, 67, of Early, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Matthew’s life during a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, at Early First Baptist Church.
Matthew was born on December 29, 1958, in Pecos, Texas, to William Grady and Mary Alice Ferguson. He attended Pecos High School and was a faithful member of Early First Baptist Church.
Matthew found his greatest joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren, who were the center of his world. He had a passion for collecting unique and interesting treasures. Those who knew him will fondly remember his playful spirit and the affectionate nickname he lovingly gave his grandchildren-“Stinkin Rat”-a term of endearment that never failed to bring smiles and laughter to the family.
Matthew will be remembered for his love of family, his kind heart, and the special moments he shared with those who knew and loved him. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Matthew is survived by his daughter, Ashley Ferguson (Nicholas Basaldua); son, Lucas Ferguson (Maribel Molina); daughter, Melody McCartney (Josh McCartney); brother, Mark Ferguson; sister, Joy Ferguson; grandchildren, Taylor Anderson, Leighton McCartney, Bryson McCartney, Rafael Basaldua, Beau McCartney, Sebastian Basaldua, and a new grandson due in late July.
Matthew was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Mary Alice Ferguson.
