GRAHAM – The Brownwood High Lions and Lady Lions notched their first victory of the team tennis season, claiming a 15-4 road triumph over District 6-4A rival Graham Tuesday afternoon in 107-degree heat.
Led by the 100th victory of Blake Hutchins’ career (6-1, 6-2 over Tyler Bryan in the No. 1 boys singles position), the Lions and Lady Lions evened their league record at 1-1 and moved to 1-5 on the season.
Also collecting boys singles wins were No. 2 Aiden Oplotnik (7-5, 6-3 over Chris Reyes), No. 4 Ian Cervantes (6-3, 6-0 over Brooklyn Tarsoaga), No. 5 Parker Dennison (6-2, 6-2 over Keigan Garland), and No. 6 Duncan Dennison (6-0, 6-1 over Jordan Meranda).
In boys doubles action, victories belonged to No. 2 Cervantes and Cooper Morgan (7-6 [5], 6-4 over Tarsoaga and Garland), and No. 3 Dennison and Dennison (6-0, 6-0 over Miranda and Manuel Perez).
The Lady Lions swept all three of their doubles matches as landing in the win column were No. 1 Gigi Rodriguez and Jami Patterson (6-3, 6-4 over Manjat Humpal and Lauren Buckley), No. 2 Coulter Day and Arely Carrere (6-1, 6-2 over Brylee Jones and Lauren White), and No. 3 Amy Deechaleune and Willow Camp (6-2, 6-1 over Zoey Milligan and Vanessa Ibarra).
Chalking up singles victories for the Lady Lions were No. 2 Rodriguez (6-3, 6-0 over Humpal), No. 3 Day (6-3, 6-0 over Buckley), No. 4 Carrere (6-4, 4-6, 12-10 over Jones), No. 5 Camp (6-4, 6-2 over White), and No. 6 Deechaleune (6-1, 6-1 over Milligan).
The Lions and Lady Lions will next be in action Tuesday, Sept. 1 when they host Mineral Wells at 4 p.m. in another District 6-4A match.
