DPS provides update on Monday accidents that claimed three lives

DPS officials have released further details regarding two separate vehicle accidents that resulted in three deaths Monday evening. The first occurred Monday at around 8 p.m. A vehicle driven by Willie Jones, 82 of Goldthwaite along with Patricia Jones, 80 of Early was traveling northwest on US 84. A second vehicle, driven by local bull rider J.W. Harris, 29 of Mullin, along with his family members Jackie, Aubrey and Dillon were traveling southeast on US 84. An unknown vehicle was passing the Jones vehicle on the right shoulder. Willie Jones veered into oncoming traffic and collided with the Harris vehicle. The unknown vehicle did not stay at the scene. According to DPS, the only description of the unknown third vehicle was that it was “possibly a white or silver colored pickup truck, possibly a Chevrolet or GMC. This accident is under further investigation. Willie and Patricia Jones were pronounced dead at the scene while the members of the Harris family were transported to Brownwood Regional Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
The second accident occurred one hour prior on County Road 213, five miles southeast of Brookesmith. According to the report, the driver, 69 year old Robert Holland of Brookesmith was traveling southbound at an unsafe speed for the road conditions. The driver began to drive off the roadway to the left and overcorrected back to the right. Holland’s vehicle went into a side skid across the roadway and rolled over to its left side and he was ejected from the vehicle. Holland was pronounced dead at BRMC. This crash also remains under investigation.
