The Brown County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a new telephone scam. The scam is coming from an area code 325-400 number. First, they will tell you they are from the sheriff’s office and give you a name. The caller than tells you they have a warrant out for your arrest. They may tell you if you pay them over the phone they will take care of it for you then.

Also they may tell you to go get a paid card or dot card to take care of it. This is the scam. The local sheriff’s office will never ask for money over the phone or by mail. To be on the safe side never give personal account or card info over the phone, unless you know for sure who you are speaking with. They will sound legit and try to scare you into giving them money, but don’t let them fool you. If you have any doubt, call 646-5510.
