The Brownwood City Council held the second of two public hearing, as required by law, since the proposed property tax rate for the upcoming year exceeds the effective tax rate. The effective tax rate is $.7082 per $100 valuation. The proposed tax rate is $.7463 per $100 valuation, which is unchanged from the current year. The proposed tax rate will exceed the effective tax rate by 5.4%.
In other business during Tuesday’s council meeting:
- Approved the meet and confer agreement between the City of Brownwood and the Brownwood Professional Firefighters Association.
- Cast a vote for Mayor Stephen Haynes to retain his seat on the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Employee Benefits Pool for Region 6.
- Authorized Haynes to sign the Senior Nutrition Program Contractor Funding Contract for 2016-17 Congregate Meals and Home Delivery Meals with the West Central Texas Area Agency on Aging.
- Approved a resolution declaring bricks as surplus property and donated them to Revitalize Our Community (ROC) for a community enhancement project.
- Approved a roughly $12,000 expenditure for air conditioner repairs at the Brownwood Coliseum
