United Blood Services is holding several blood drives in our area. Currently, UBS is sitting at just over a one-day supply for our local hospitals, including Brownwood Regional. The group said they have been seeing an average of 25-35% deferral rates lately, meaning they lose about 1/3 of the potential donors who show up to donate. There is always a need for O- and O+ blood types. Although 60% of the population is eligible to donate, only 5% do. Statistically, about half of the population will need blood or a blood product at some point during their lifetimes. The following is a list of the upcoming blood drives
Oct 14 — Victory Life Academy, located at 901 CC Woodson Rd. This drive will be from 2:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Donors will receive a donor t-shirt and a free cholesterol check.
