Early Police Chief David Mercer was a guest speaker Monday morning at Victory Life Academy as part of Red Ribbon Week. The school will welcome a different guest speaker each day this week. Mercer explained the danger of drug use to the students. He also discussed the penalties and consequences for choosing a drug lifestyle.

Mercer fielded questions from the students, including how much prison time drug charges can lead to and the physical dangers of using drugs. Mercer pointed out that prescription medication abuse has become just as big of a problem as marijuana, cocaine and other drugs.

Other speakers this week will include medical personnel and Brownwood Police Chief Terry Nichols.
