A housing study for Brownwood has been approved by the Brownwood Municipal Development District (BMDD) Board of Directors. Maintaining a balanced price range of available housing (for sale and rental) is critical to the long term viability of any community. Without an adequate supply of attractive housing choices employers will be reluctant to bring their businesses to the City and residents will not be able to move up or find newer housing that meets the needs of their changing lifestyles.
For these and other reasons, Brownwood recognizes the need to upgrade their housing stock. However, there is a need to take a closer look at overall housing conditions, document the deficiencies/opportunities and identify the type, price range and number of housing units the community can realistically support. Results of the analysis can then be packaged and presented to those who’s housing products match up with the documented demand.
Community Development Strategies (CDS) of Houston was selected to conduct the detailed study to help determine the demand for housing of all kinds and price ranges in Brownwood. This study, in addition to the normal information provided in housing studies, will include surveys and dialogue with employers, builders and developers, apartment owners and managers, real estate agents, public officials, and others who might have valuable input. The additional information being asked for in the study is necessary due to Brownwood’s unique demographics and workforce makeup.
