The Brown County Commissioners met this morning in one of the longest meetings in recent memory. A big portion of the meeting was spent opening and approving bids for bulk hauling or road materials, paving, seal coating and all asphalt products, blasting and crushing limestone and caliche rock, crushed caliche, crushed limestone, grade 3, 4, and 5 cover stone as well as cold mix. The court unanimously agreed to accept the bids presented.
In other business, the court: heard from Courtney Parrott with the county extension office regarding the healthy county program; approved the purchase of new computers and accessories for two of the JP offices; approved a proclamation from the Brown County Child Welfare Board declaring April as Child Abuse Prevention Month; approved a proclamation declaring April 6 as World War I Centennial Remembrance Day; took no action on a request to reduce the speed limit on a portion of C.C. Woodson Rd.; approved the purchase of two tasers for the sheriff’s department, as well as a new vehicle for the sheriff’s department and two sets of stun cuffs. The court also approved sheriff Vance Hill applying for a Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Grant from the department of justice.
