“Back the Blue”, a community event to show support for local law enforcement, is scheduled for August 16 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:15 p.m. at the Depot Plaza, located at 600 E. Depot St. A reception will be held prior to the event beginning at 5:30 p.m. for the community to meet local officials and law enforcement. Organizer and Brown County Sheriff’s Office Chaplain Rick Phelps said this is a simple way to just say “thank you.” “This will be a way for the entire community to come together as we celebrate our law enforcement who have and are currently serving, as well as honor those in Texas who have given their lives in the line of duty.”
The event will feature songs, remarks and prayers. “We will also have a balloon release as a way to always remember the sacrifice fallen officers have made,” Phelps said.
Civic organizations and church groups are invited to take part. “I am hoping that any groups who would like to fund raise at the event will consider donating a portion of the proceeds to the Brownwood Municipal Police Association,” Phelps said.
All law enforcement agencies are encouraged to attend. As a board member of the Heart of Texas Crime Stoppers, Phelps is hoping law enforcement officials from the tri-county area covered by the group will also take part. “We cover Brown, Mills and Coleman counties,” Phelps explained. “I truly hope those folks will be able to come so we can honor them for their service as well.”
