Gary Don Smith, age 75, of Brownwood passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at Abilene Regional Medical Center.
Memorial Services for Gary will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 30, 2018, at New Beginnings Church with Pastor Kelly Crenshaw and Richard Ember officiating; private interment will be held at a later date. Visitation will be held Saturday evening from 5-6 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home.
Gary was born to Harvey and Floye Vivian (Spencer) Smith on November 11, 1942, in Santa Anna. Gary joined the United States Navy, he served as a Medic during Vietnam. After the Navy, he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. He also worked for the Texas Youth Commission.
Gary loved and lived for his grandbabies; he never missed a soccer practice or baseball game. He was a member of New Beginnings Church. When he wasn’t fishing, his favorite past time was distributing bubble gum or donut holes at New Beginnings.
Gary is survived by his wife, Yolanda Smith of Brownwood; daughter, Taylor Smith of Brownwood; 2 grandchildren, Karter and Haven; 2 brothers, Harvey Smith and wife Jeanie of Temple, and Pat Smith of Brownwood; and sister, Judy Massengale of Conroe. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and 1 brother, Tony Smith.
