The Brownwood Police Department will be participating in the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day Saturday, October 27. This program aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the community about the potential for abuse of medications. The program is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
The Police Department will host a take-back drop off location from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the parking lot at Austin Ave and Coggin Ave. across the street from Brookshire’s and CVS Pharmacy. Members of the community are encouraged to bring any unwanted, expired, and unused prescription medications to the drop off location.
The Police Department will secure the medications and properly dispose of them. The department cannot accept any needles or sharps.
“Prescription drug abuse is a serious issue across the country. This is an opportunity to prevent your prescription medication from theft, abuse, and falling into the hands of children and others who may abuse them,” said Brownwood Police Chief Terry Nichols.
For anyone who cannot participate on Saturday, there is a secure and safe disposal box in the lobby of the Law Enforcement Center which is available year-round Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. More information on the DEA National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day can be found at deadiversion.usdoj.gov/drug_disposal/takeback.
