Two arrested on drug charges, landlord tells deputies tenant is a burglar

A deputy with the Brown County Sheriff’s Office observed a 1996 Honda with a defective high mount brake light while on patrol earlier this week. A traffic stop was initiated on Austin Avenue. The deputy made contact with Sammy Peel and Jamie Dysert. Peel was arrested for possession of marijuana. Dysert was arrested on two counts of tampering with evidence, possession of a controlled substance, penalty group 1 and possession of marijuana. The marijuana weighed a total of 1.2 grams and the controlled substance weighed .4 grams with packaging.

In other incidents involving the sheriff’s office:
• A deputy was dispatched to County Road 271 regarding dogs killing chickens. While investigating, the deputy went to another address in which the dogs may have come from. While at the resident, the deputy noticed a dog which was “very” malnourished.
• A man reported a firearm being stolen from his vehicle while at work.
• A deputy responded to a structure fire on Highway 279. Fire personnel on scene found a donkey in a small pen in poor living conditions with a decomposing horse carcass. The deputy also observed several large piles of tires, trash and signs of possible leaking sewage. The male on scene was transported for fire related injuries.
• A verbal argument was reported between a woman, a man and the man’s mother.
• Deputies responded to Belfast Dr. regarding a burglary in progress. The alleged burglar was found in the home and detained. It was soon discovered the man was a tenant of the home and that the property owner had locked the “burglar” out of the home due to not paying rent. The man was released and the owner was informed of proper eviction procedures.
