Feasibility Study Approved for Historic Brownwood Hotel

Brownwood City Council on Tuesday, March 26, approved ratification of a Municipal Development District Board request to conduct a feasibility study for the renovation of the historic Brownwood Hotel.

Citing a large amount of federal and state incentives for hotel renovations, and a developer interested in the project, Economic Development Director, Ray Tipton, told the Council this is a good time for a feasibility study.  “That hotel actually lies in what is called an Opportunity Zone which there are a lot of capital gains benefits for doing projects like this.  What we want to do is have this feasibility study conducted, find out if the project is feasible and to what degree, do a market study and see if this developer wants to do the project,” Tipton said.

Randy McCaslin, owner of McCaslin Hotel Consulting in Houston, is tapped for the study.  He has worked on the Baker Hotel project in Mineral Wells among many others.
