Three Arrested in Brownwood Tuesday on Robbery and Drug Charges

The following news released was shared by Brownwood Interim Police Chief, James Fuller concerning three arrests made Tuesday.

On Tuesday, May 07, 2019, at approximately 12:30 am, officers were dispatched to a north Brownwood apartment complex regarding a fight in progress.

Upon arrival, officers observed a small group of people fighting at the landing of a stairwell outside a complex building.  Officers intervened and commenced the investigation.

Stephen Cody Tackett

During the investigation it was learned that one of the men, 24 yr-old Stephen Cody Tackett of Brownwood, arrived at this apartment with another male with the intention of robbing this apartment.  The intent of these men was to rob the resident of his supply of illegal narcotics; namely marijuana.  In their attempt to commit this robbery, Mr. Tackett and his accomplice struck the resident in the head with a shotgun in their possession.  Mr. Tackett was arrested and transported to the Brown County Jail where he was charged with Aggravated Robbery.

Trevor King

Continuing in the investigation, officers interviewed the residents of the apartment.  The residents were identified as 21 yr-old Trevor Deshon King and 22 yr-old McKinze Leanne Smith (mugshot unavailable on jail website).  King and Smith admitted to having consumed marijuana in their apartment but denied still possessing any.  Both also denied consent to search the apartment.  A search warrant was therefore obtained.  Once inside the apartment, officers discovered over 4 ounces of marijuana and approximately 25 grams of THC concentrate along with equipment and material for packaging and sale.

Based on these findings, Mr. King and Ms. Smith were arrested and charged with Manufacture and Delivery of a Controlled Substance PG2, Possession of Marijuana between 4 oz and 5 lbs.  Both were transported to the Brown County Jail without incident.

This investigation remains on-going and more arrests are anticipated.
