In a news conference late Tuesday afternoon, Brown County Emergency Manager, David Creed, said the search for a missing Mills County woman continues in the area of 10 Mile Crossing in southern Brown County.
“The past two days has been spent basically on recovery efforts. We’ve had several agencies working the area out there trying to see what we can find out there,” Creed said.
He said Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens are using drones from a half mile to two miles downstream. “The area of biggest concern is probably a half mile below the Highway 257 crossing,” Creed said. Murky and fast moving water are hindering use of cameras and dive teams.
The pickup swept away around 1:30 am Sunday was occupied by three persons. Lynn Leonard, 29, and Kathy Armendarez, 40, were able to get out of the vehicle, according to the Brown County Sheriff’s Department. It is unknown if the third person, Susan Smith, 59, was able to exit the vehicle. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a missing person investigation for Susan Smith, according to a news release from the S.O. Tuesday morning.
