Silver Valley Tornado was 300 Yards Wide, on Ground 2 Miles

The tornado that tore through Silver Valley Saturday morning, 10 miles northwest of Coleman, was rated an EF 3.  It was three hundred yards wide, and created a path of destruction two miles long.

According to the San Angelo National Weather Service survey team that inspected the damage Sunday, winds in the Silver Valley tornado were estimated at 140 mph and considerable damage was done.  Even though that area is rural, several residences experienced damage.

There was heavy tree and power line damage with electrical crews working all weekend to restore electrical power to the Silver Valley area.

Also an EF 3 was the tornado that hit Ballinger, likely the strongest tornado of the four that hit Saturday morning, the others being in San Angelo and Abilene, those being EF 2’s.
