Neighborhood Evacuated After Contractor Strikes Gas Line

A private contractor, doing underground boring, struck a gas line in a south Brownwood residential area Tuesday morning.

Brownwood Fire and Police units were on the scene at Parkway and Belmeade, a few blocks west of Coggin Park.  Atmos Energy personnel were also there.

According to Brownwood Fire Chief, Eddy Wood, several homes in the area were evacuated by police and fire personnel as a precaution.  Road blocks were put up for several blocks surrounding the scene.  As of about 11:00 am, the gas leak was under control, Wood said.  Barricades were being removed by 11:30 am. There were no injuries.
