We checked with Brownwood Interim Fire Chief and Fire Marshal, Buddy Preston, concerning the black smoke seen for miles.
He said it was a small grass fire between Carpenter and Drisco roads that burned Styrofoam, grass and two junk vehicles. No other structures were involved and there were no injuries.
