BHS Students Receive Honors at Annual Academic Awards Ceremony

The Brownwood High School (BHS) Academic Awards Ceremony was held Thursday, May 20, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. in the BHS Auditorium. Students were honored in a variety of academic and extracurricular fields, including the 2021 BHS Valedictorian and Salutatorian presentations.

Valedictorian honors were presented to Ava Sparks-Hansen, and Salutatorian honors were awarded to Jonathan Hagood.  (shown in photo)

While at BHS, Ava Sparks-Hansen has been involved in the band as an officer, had the role of NHS Vice President for the 2020-2021 school year, and competed with the debate team. Ava is pursuing Medicine at Baylor University as a Neuroscience Major, is hoping to pursue classes in language and music, and is going to be a member of Baylor’s Golden Wave Band.

During his time at BHS, Jonathan Hagood has been involved in the National Honor Society, Academic UIL – Computer Science, Robotics, Social Studies, and the BHS Band Drumline playing Bass Drum. Hagood plans to attend Oklahoma Christian University, where he will major in Accounting and work towards a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.

Sparks-Hansen and Hagood will walk the stage at Gordon Wood Stadium on Friday, May 28, as part of the BHS graduating class of 2021. Commencement begins at 7:00 p.m., and a live video broadcast will be available at https://www.brownwoodisd.org/bhsgraduation.
