Double Homicide in Burnet County – Lampasas Man in Custody

BURNET – A Lampasas man was arrested Thursday and is being held without bond in the Burnet County Jail in connection to a double-homicide in Burnet County.  The following information is from the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.

On 9/2/21, the investigation into the double-homicide in the Overlook subdivision resulted in the arrest of James Joseph Luckenbach, 33, of Lampasas, Texas.

Luckenbach was taken into custody for Capital Murder of Multiple Persons and was booked into the Burnet County Jail where he remains held without bond.

The Burnet County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Texas Rangers, the 33rd/424th District Attorney (Sonny McAfee), the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Horseshoe Bay Police Department, the Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office, The Mills County Sheriff’s Office, and the Lampasas Police Department for their invaluable assistance with this investigation.

The charges against Luckenbach will be forwarded to the 33rd/424th District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
According to DailyTrib.com, on Monday, Aug. 30, deputies responded to the Overlook subdivision off of Texas 71 about a mile west of the U.S. 281 intersection after a caller reported finding two people unresponsive in a home. When deputies arrived, they found two victims: Frank Whittemore, 42, and Amanda (Romero) Whittemore, 39. Both were deceased.
