The Brownwood City Council on Tuesday morning voted unanimously to rescind and repeal, on first reading, an ordinance which established a juvenile curfew in the city of Brownwood.
“In the recent legislative session, the Texas Legislature determined to no longer allow counties or municipalities to have a local juvenile curfew ordinance. The city of Brownwood did enact one in 2021 and so we have been operating with one for about two years now,” said Emily Crawford, City Manager.
“As of September 1st, the city will no longer be able to enforce the juvenile curfew due to the state legislature. So, what happened today, is the Council rescinded the ordinance and that will take one more reading at the next city council meeting because by September 1st we will no longer be able to utilize that curfew ordinance,” Crawford said.
The Council went into Executive Session at 9:35 am for the purpose of discussion regarding the Brownwood Hotel. Back in Open Session at 10:12 am, no action was taken.
The Council also voted 5-0 to approve a budget amendment for the 2022-2023 year in the amount of $22,043.88 from reserves for payment of a Brown County Sheriff’s Office invoice.
The Council also received a budgetary control report for the quarter ending June 30, 2023 and an investment report for the quarter ending June 30, 2023.
The Council received an update on the Brownwood Regional Airport LED Taxiway project where a 480 LED’s have been installed for increased awareness for pilots while operating at the airport after dark.
All Council members were in attendance and Mayor Stephen Haynes presided over the meeting.
