Travis Scott Winn, 80

Travis Scott Winn, loving husband and father, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025, in Cleburne, Texas. He was born September 6, 1944, in Brownwood, Texas, to Paul Winn and Octavene Lanford Winn.

Travis was a graduate of Brownwood High School, Howard Payne University, and the University of North Texas. He obtained his Superintendent’s Certification from Texas Christian University. He served in the Air National Guard of Texas.

Travis was an educator for 36 years, serving as Teacher, Principal, Vocational Director, and Superintendent in many Texas schools. He served 4 school districts as Superintendent, Leakey, Gary, Lindsay and Richland Springs ISD. The school children of Texas lost a good friend with his passing. He also had his own business and ranched in Brown County.

Travis is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sheryl Winn; his son, Justin Scott Winn, of Austin; his brother, Rowland Winn and wife, Evy, of Brownwood; his aunt, Louise Looney, his niece, Tressie Clawson, nephews, Rex Winn and Frank Winn, great-nephews, many cousins, and long-time friends and classmates. He loved being with his “boys” Mark, Jason, Jamie, and Joey.

Travis loved spending time at his Blanket farm with family and a multitude of friends, barbecuing on the smoker and talking. In earlier years he was a hunter and fisherman, but later enjoyed watching younger ones do the same. His hobbies included collecting a multitude of antiques, uniques and looking for those underground with his metal detector. He was a member and officer of the Central Texas Treasure Club of Brownwood, and First United Methodist Church, Cleburne, and past member of Rotary International. He was especially close to his classmates of Brownwood High School, class of 1963, and the Steppe Creek Ranch Crew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Octavene Winn; his sister, Mary Ellen Wood, many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Memorial service will be at 11:00 AM, March, 15, 2025 at Heartland Funeral Home, Early, Texas.
