
AUSTIN – The 2025 UIL Track and Field State Championships concluded Friday and Saturday at the University of Texas’ Myers Stadium, with local schools collecting eight medals.
Earning state championships were Zephyr’s Ronni McClain, who defended her Class 1A girls pole vault title with a best effort of 10-10. Also, Richland Springs Coyote Brice Roesler brought home gold in the 1A boys shot put with a top performance of 51-3.
Silver medals were claimed by Zephyr’s Haley Eason in the 1A girls triple jump with a 34-8.75 leap on her final attempt, while Richland Springs’ Cohen Ethridge was the runner-up in the 1A boys 300-meter hurdles in a time of 39.22.
Collecting bronze medals were the Richland Springs boys 4×200 relay of Cohen Ethridge, Jim Eckermann, Ethan Deeds and Rush Norris, which had the third-best Class 1A time of 3:30.21, along with the Cross Plains boys 4×400 relay of Rylen Reed, Ryder Reed, Kade Purvis and Gray Albrecht in 3:25.16.
The Class 2A running events were also held Saturday morning after being postponed due to weather Friday, and the Bangs Lady Dragons 4×100 relay of Valerie Razo, Kasey Solis, Cameryn Harmon and Abby Wolf placed fifth in a new school record time of 48.77. The same quartet comprised the 4×200 relay for the Lady Dragons and came in sixth, also with a new school record time of 1:44.78.
The relays, along with Solis’ silver medal effort in the triple jump (37-0.25) and bronze medal performance in the long jump (17-9.75) Friday, gave the Lady Dragons 20 points, good for eighth place in the final Class 2A girls team standings.
The Richland Springs boys finished in a tie for third place in the Class 1A standings with 44 points, the Cross Plains boys ended up in an eighth place tie with 20 points in Class 1A, and the Zephyr girls were 14th as a team with 18 points.
