It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Jean Lane, age 90, of Brownwood. She passed from this life on May 6, 2025. Margaret Jean Reigert was born on January 12, 1935, to Peter and Marie Reigert in Gary, Indiana.

She was the youngest of five children. Margaret often told stories from her childhood that had patriotic undertones. After graduating from high school, she exercised patriotism by joining the United State Air Force. After completing basic training in San Antonio, she promised to never return to Texas. While stationed at Chanute Air Base in Rantoul, Illinois, she met her future husband, Hal Lane of Texas. After moving back to Texas, they settled in Brownwood.

In the early 1970’s Margaret attended Howard Payne where her husband was a math professor. She had three children at home and still graduated with honors. Upon graduating from Howard Payne, she got a job with Brownwood ISD. Margaret taught math for twenty-five years in the school system with twenty-four of these being at Woodland Heights Elementary. During her free time Margaret loved making crafts. One of the projects that kept her busy were her “scrubbies.” She was affectionately known as the “Scrubbies Lady.” Margaret loved making them and people loved buying them.

Margaret and Hal enjoyed vacationing all over the United States during their spare time. They had a beautiful life and a marriage of sixty-three years together. They will forever live on in the stories that will be spoken of them and the joy they brought to others.

Those who proceeded Margaret in death were her parents Peter and Margaret Reigert and stepfather Homer Brooks. Her sisters Dorothy Hanson and Arlene Ashston; Brothers Bob Reigert and Pete Reigert; husband Hal B. Lane Jr.; great-granddaughter Aleesa Jade Koepp.

Those left to cherish her memory are daughter Linda Lane of Brownwood, sons Hal B Lane III and wife Cindy of Bulverde and Robert Lane and wife Lenora of Brownwood; grandchildren William Koepp of Brownwood and Kimberly Vanpelt and husband Joe of Coleman; great-grandchildren Kristofer Koepp, Kennedy Harris, Branson Koepp; great-great grandchild Thea Koepp; and numerous nephews and nieces.
