
During Tuesday morning’s meeting of the Brownwood City Council, the 2025 Class 4A Track and Field State Champion Brownwood Lady Lions were recognized for their success, earning the school’s first athletic team state championship since 1986.
Mayor Stephen Haynes declared Tuesday, May 13 as Lady Lions Track and Field State Championship Day and read the following proclamation:
Whereas, the City of Brownwood takes pride in celebrating the achievements and contributions of these outstanding residents; and
Whereas, the 2025 Brownwood Lady Lions Track and Field team has achieved a first in the history of the Lady Lions program by earning the UIL Class 4A State Track and Field Championship, which is also the first state championship for any Brownwood High School team since 1986; and
Whereas, the Lady Lions captured the title on Thursday, May 1, 2025 in Myers Stadium at the University of Texas at Austin by generating 64 points, which exceeded the 45 points earned by state runner-up Canyon; and
Whereas, Icess Hall, Jade Morin, Kaya Phillips, and Aniah Hines won a gold medal in the 4×100 relay in a time of 47.0; and
Whereas, Kaya Phillips, Jade Morin, Aniah Hines and Kate Tindol won a silver medal in the 4×200 relay in a time of 1:39.14; and
Whereas, Jade Morin, Kate Tindol, Rebekkah Delgado and Braycee Lee won a silver medal in the 4×400 relay in a time of 3:50.93; and
Whereas, Kaya Phillips won a gold medal in the 200 meters in a time of 23.75; and
Whereas, other accomplishments in the state meet where Hannah Deen placing fifth in the high jump with a jump of 5 foot, 4 inches, Kate Tindol placing eighth in the 300-meter hurdles in a time 46.07, and Kaya Phillips placing eighth in the long jump with a jump of 17 feet, 4 inches. There were five relay alternates in attendance, Jentry Coalson, Inylah Hall, Jaidyn Hope, Grace Sparks and Sidney Windham; and
Whereas, the Lady Lions achievement reflects not only individual excellence, but also the hard work and support of their coaches and teammates
Now, therefore, I, Stephen Haynes, Mayor of the City of Brownwood, along with the Brownwood City Council, do hereby proclaim May 13, 2025 as Brownwood Lady Lions State Championship Day in honor of this remarkable accomplishment I hereby call for all citizens of the City of Brownwood to extend their sincere congratulations and best wishes to the Lady Lions for their continued success in both academics and athletics.
