Rosa Lee “Shot” Harris passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on May 21, 2025. Her daughter Terri and granddaughter Kaylee were by her side.
Rosa was born May 16, 1939 in Kermit, Texas to N. B. “Pat” and Rosa Balko Holder. She graduated Salutatorian from Kermit High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas in El Paso. She then became a teacher and coach with Buena Vista ISD in Imperial Texas. In the short time she worked there, she taught all level PE, 3rd and 4th grade. She was a cheerleader sponsor and took two teams to the State Volleyball Tournament winning two titles.
Shot, as she was known to everyone, married the love of her life, Charlie L. Harris, on October 14, 1966 in Imperial. She gave up her coaching and teaching career when they adopted their oldest daughter Terri Lee in 1969. Three years later, they adopted their second daughter, Tammi Lee. Shot devoted all of her time to Charlie and the girls. She was involved in and supported them in all their school activities until they both graduated. This was in everything, from being the “homeroom Mom” in elementary to following them all over the state for volleyball, basketball, track meets, stock shows and band performances.
In the early ‘90s, Shot and Charlie moved from Imperial to Brownwood to the farm that Charlie purchased after he got out of the army. They built their home on the property and lived there for the rest of their lives. Rosa volunteered at Good Samaritan in Brownwood as well as being a member of the Texas Extension Education Association (Owens EE Club). Shot was actively involved with her church, Blanket Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting afghans and blankets for people and loved spending time with family.
Rosa spent the last two years of her life living in Denton Texas to be close to her daughter Terri. They were able to spend valuable time together and Terri was able to see Shot every day.
Rosa is survived by her daughter, Terri Hooper (Carl Smith) of Ponder; grandchildren, Kaylee Coleman (Christian Scarbrough), Ada OK, Zack Hooper (Rachael Brumbaugh), Early and Sydney Hooper, Ponder; four great-grandchildren, Hayden, Mason, Brooklyn, and Nathaniel with twin great-grandsons on the way; sister, Patsy LaFon of Abilene and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, N. B. “Pat” and Rosa Holder; husband Charlie Harris, and daughter, Tammi Johnson.
A time of visitation will take place Tuesday, May 27,2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00PM at Heartland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May28, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Blanket Methodist Church with interment at Heflin Cemetery.
