John Allen, General Manager of the Brown County Water Improvement District, first informed BrownwoodNews.com at 1:20 a.m. Sunday that a drowning had taken place at Lake Brownwood.

Allen stated a call was received shortly before 1 a.m. that a male was holding on to a boat, let go of the boat, and never resurfaced. After an unsuccessful search before sunrise, efforts resumed again between Wild Duck Marina and McCartney Island around 10 a.m. Sunday. Where exactly the 47-year-old male, whose place of residency is unknown at this time, went under is uncertain.

Several game wardens with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department are at the scene conducting the search, according to Allen. As of 12:30 p.m. Sunday, the search efforts had not yet been successful.
