David Clyde Taylor, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully at the age of 84 in Brownwood, on Sunday, July 20, 2025 surrounded by family. Graveside services will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, July 26, at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in May under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home in Early with a celebration of life to follow at his son’s home on Lake Brownwood.

David was born in Bastrop, on November 2, 1940, to David and Anna Taylor. David attended LaGrange ISD in his youth and graduated from McCallum High in Austin. He served in the United States Army from 1962-1965 active and 1965-1968 reserve with an honorable discharge as a Private First Class E3. He worked for the cities of Austin and Garland prior to retiring from the Lower Colorado River Authority.

David was known to all for his love of God, Country, family, and his joking nature. He knew no strangers. He spoke to all of God and of his adventures (and misadventures) as a young man including his time in the U.S. Army. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. And no one was spared his sense of humor.

David is proceeded in death by his wife of 42 years, Vivian Fern Taylor, his parents and sisters Hazel Williams and Mary Scarboro.

David’s legacy is carried on by his family including his sister, Betty Gordon, and his eight children: Thelma (and Danny) Sorgman, James (and Shawn Holt) Stark, Mark (and Lou Ann) Stark, Sherry (and John) Gaines-Taylor, Amy (and Gary) Maddox, Chris (and Shirley) Taylor, Jonathan (and Tammy) Taylor, Samantha (and Skeeter) Claytor. He will also be missed by his twenty-two grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and eight great great-grandchildren.

While he will be missed here on earth, there is great comfort in the knowledge that he has been reunited in the kingdom of heaven with his wife and family that have gone before him.
