It is with a mix of heartache and joy that we mourn the passing of Sherry Gail Gilbert Clark on August 16, 2025, at age 77. She was a beloved wife, mom, sister, aunt, cousin, Gigi, and so much more!  We celebrate her glorious transition into Jesus’ presence.  She brought people together through her love and showed us how to be better in her home, in her church, in her classroom, in her leadership, in her volunteer work, and in every other sphere of influence that she filled with her calm authority.  She will be missed but always loved.Visitation will be held from 6 to 8PM on Tuesday, August 19, at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. Funeral services for Sherry will be held at 10AM on Wednesday, August 20, at Zephyr First Baptist Church.

Sherry was born in Amherst, Texas on September 5, 1947, to Allan Henry Gilbert and Christelle (Eudy) Gilbert.  She married Douglas Goss Clark on May 23, 1965, in Van Horn, Texas.  She was a long time resident of Zephyr, Texas and active member of Zephyr Baptist Church. She received a Bachelor of Science from Sul Ross University and a Master of Education from Tarleton State University.  She started her career in education at Early, Texas in 1979. She retired in 2016 having served at Early ISD as a kindergarten teacher, gifted and talented teacher, technology coordinator, principal, assistant superintendent, and, finally, the director of ACE (an after school program).  She served Zephyr Baptist Church as music director, youth director, Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School coordinator, and church secretary.  Throughout her life, her chief interest was loving people well, especially her parents, siblings, children, grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and anyone who tagged along to a family celebration or holiday gathering.  Everyone was welcome, and everyone was family.  It is impossible to capture all the organizations she served, but she was active in the Early Chamber of Commerce, Brown County Child Welfare Board, CAMO (Craft and Mission Opportunities), and Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Larry Smith.  She is survived by her dedicated husband, Doug; daughter Kim Bird and husband Erin; son Matt Clark and wife Jennifer; son Quentin Clark and wife Shanna; sister Joan Smith; brother Gary Gilbert and wife Debi; brother Vince Gilbert and wife Kristy.  Grandchildren include Morgan Bird, Drew Bird, Landon Clark (Hailey), Syd Clark, Allison Clark, and Cullen Clark.  She had many cousins, nieces, great nieces, nephews, and great nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Brown County Child Welfare Board or Zephyr Baptist Church in her name.
