At Monday’s meeting of the Brown County Commissioners Court, approval was given for Brown County to enter into a National Opioid Settlement Agreement.  The County first participated in an opioid settlement program in 2021, and since then has received over $120,000 from the program.  Two new opioid settlement programs are now available from the U.S. Attorney General’s office.  Any funds received will be used for opioid remediation supplies and AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) machines, to be available in the County Courthouse.

Brown County Elections Administrator Brenda Arp presented a list of proposed election judges to serve 2025 – 2027 (see below).  The Commissioners approved the proposed judges.  Arp also reported an approved grant of $42,500 from the Texas Secretary of State office.  The funds will be used to purchase new poll pads, the equipment used to check in voters on election days.

Brown County District Clerk Cheryl Jones requested approval of funds for her department’s Preservation and Restoration Microfiche project.  Many County records in the District Clerk’s office from several decades ago are on an obsolete storage technology called microfiche.  The District Clerk’s office has no equipment to read the microfiche, and Jones is concerned that the microfiche film is slowly deteriorating.  The Commissioners approved a contract in the amount of $34,306 with Revolution Data Systems to convert the records on the microfiche film to digital records.

Commissioner Joel Kelton reported that in Precinct 2 there are three box culverts that are in need of concrete repair work.  The County will soon request bids for these repairs.  If interested in placing a bid, contact Joel Kelton at the Courthouse.

Commissioners approved fourteen County holidays for 2026.  See list below.

Commissioners agreed to keep the current Burn Ban ON for now.
