The Brownwood Lions put three goals on the board in the first 10 minutes of their 2026 soccer season opener and never looked back, claiming a 5-2 victory over Godley Friday afternoon at Gordon Wood Stadium.

Raven Prado scored a team-high three goals for the Lions (1-0), while Isaac Morales and Alex Vaquera chipped in one apiece.

A win is always special because of the work that is put in to achieve it,” Lions head coach Michael Westerman said of the season-opening victory. “The boys have responded well after our previous scrimmage match and we took the initiative to be a threatening team in the attack. There’s lots of things to be happy about but also a lot of wrinkles we need to iron out. We will rest our bodies and be ready to work next week to be a better team than we were today.”

The Lions scored just 3:31 into the contest as Morales found the back of the net from 12 yards out after Godley was whistled for a penalty.

Then, with 5:48 gone off the clock, Prado tallied his first goal from 10 yards out on the left side, making the score 2-0.

Just 2:06 later, Prado scored again on a rebound after his first shot was deflected by the goal keeper, and Brownwood was in front 3-0 a mere 7:54 into the contest.

The Lions maintained their three-goal advantage throughout the first half, then tacked on goals in the second half again by Prado as well as Vaquera.

Godley responded with two goals of its own for the final three-goal margin.

The Lions are back in action at 6 p.m. Tuesday in their first road match of 2026 at Marlin.
