The Brownwood Coliseum will be the site of the 2026 NJCAA Women’s Basketball national championship tournament from March 11-14, and on Tuesday the Brownwood City Council voted to accept an Event Trust Fund matching grant of up to $85,316 from the Governor’s office of Economic Development and Tourism to help pay for expenses.
City of Brownwood Sports Coordinator Robert Anders told the Council the 6.25:1 matching grant goes into effect once the City spends $13,651 from its budget, and that threshold has already been reached.
The tournament will feature 12 teams and fans from across the nation with an estimated 2,000 people in attendance throughout the event. The estimated economic impact for Brownwood is $424,800.
Anders also informed City Council the recent TexasBank Holiday Classic basketball tournament, which featured 54 teams and 106 games between Dec. 29-31, resulted in an economic impact of $990,000 – or one-third of the projected year’s total for the City.
