Brownwood Fire, Police personnel rescue person who had fallen through ice into pond

The Brownwood Fire Department issued the following press release Wednesday morning:

At 4:34 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the Brownwood Fire Department responded to the 4500 block of River Oaks Drive in Brownwood for a person who had fallen through the ice into a pond.

Upon arrival, Brownwood Fire Department and Brownwood Police Department personnel found the individual in the water and in need of immediate assistance. Firefighters quickly initiated a water rescue operation and had to enter the water to successfully remove the person from the tank. When individual was removed from the water, they were conscious, alert and extremely cold. The firefighters then carried the individual to the on-scene ambulance where warming was started by the ambulance crew. The individual was then transported to Hendrick Medical Center in Brownwood by Lifeguard Ambulance.

Responding Units were Brownwood Chief 9, Engine 92, Rescue 9, Squad 9 with boat, Brownwood Police Department and Lifeguard Ambulance.

The Brownwood Fire Department reminds the public that ice-covered tanks, ponds and lakes can be extremely dangerous and should be avoided. Please stay off any ice-covered body of water.
