Barry Milton Joyce, 55

Barry Milton Joyce, age 55, of Brady, Texas, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2026 in San Angelo. Barry was born March 27, 1970, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, to John Howard Joyce and Ina Mae (Obenchain) Joyce. He grew up in Chesapeake, VA and attended Indian River High School. His love of good weather and sunshine later led him to the Tampa, Florida area, where Barry welcomed the birth of his daughter Amber in 2003. Family ties eventually pulled Barry to Central Texas, close to where John and Ina were born and raised, and in the good company of generations of relatives from both sides. Settling in Brady, where he’d spent countless summers in his youth, Barry became a father for the second time when his son Jacob was born in 2013.

Always active and energetic, Barry enjoyed employment that helped keep him physically fit and worked outdoors whenever possible. Landscaping, heavy machine operation, and manufacturing equipment for deer hunting season were just a few of the entries on his long and varied resume. Never one to shy away from hard work, Barry poured himself into the job to be done and took pride in seeing it finished. At the end of a hard day’s work, Barry loved to watch sports, listen to music from every decade, and talk politics. In a family that loved the Dallas Cowboys, Barry ardently rooted for the San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers, though he was a fan for the day of any team playing the Cowboys. A lifelong learner, Barry was always ready to start or join a deep conversation on just about any subject, but he particularly loved history. Possessing a passionate love for his country, he never tired of championing the causes he believed in. Barry was a patriot who studied the Constitution, believed in equity for all, and valued the diversity that makes our nation great. Barry was a beloved son, father, brother, and friend. He will be remembered as outgoing, friendly, and fun – always ready with a joke or a helping hand, and quick to form new connections. Though he never made it back to Virginia to enjoy his last days on the sandy beaches he loved, his final resting place of Pear Valley, Texas will eternally be a sunnier spot because of him.

There will be a Celebration of Life service for Barry Joyce on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 1:00 pm at the Bluebonnet Ballroom at the TruCountry Hotel in Brady.
