LITTLE RIVER – Tied at 1 at the end of regulation, the Brownwood Lady Lions converted three penalty kicks to two by Little River Academy in an overtime shootout to earn a District 5-4A girls soccer win Tuesday night.

Bella Garza, Khloe Galvan and Alayna Hernandez produced the shootout goals for Brownwood (10-2-1, 2-0), while Emily Diaz recorded one save against Academy (12-5, 1-1) in the extra session.

You never want to end up in a situation where you end up in PKs, although we were able to get the win,” said Lady Lions head coach Alexis Walker. “We were able to capitalize tonight and we’ll go back to the drawing board and work on putting games away early like we should have tonight.”

Madison Weckwerth scored for the Lady Lions on an assist from Amerie De La Paz midway through the first half, but Academy answered minutes later. Brownwood was unable to add to its tally despite numerous additional opportunities the remainder of the contest.

The Lady Lions will next host Gatesville (3-7-2, 0-2) – which lost to Lampasas, 2-0, Tuesday night – at 5 p.m. Friday at Gordon Wood Stadium.

We’ve got Gatesville Friday and our goal is to keep pushing forward and to get a win,” Walker said.
