Seven different players found the back of the net as the Brownwood Lady Lions remained undefeated in District 5-4A girls soccer action behind their sixth in a row overall, 8-0 over the Gatesville Lady Hornets Friday at Gordon Wood Stadium.
Coming off a penalty kick shootout victory at Little River Academy Tuesday, the Lady Lions (11-2-1, 3-0) lit up the scoreboard five times before intermission against Gatesville (3-8-2, 0-3).
“They came out and they did exactly what they needed to do,” said Lady Lions head coach Alexis Walker. “After Tuesday’s game I put a test to them. Although we came away with the win at Little River Academy it wasn’t to the standard that we want it to be and they are well aware of that. For them to step on the field today and put five goals in the back of the net in the first half, that’s the way it should look every time we step on the field.”
Kynlee Jefferson scored the first goal of each half for Brownwood, finding the net 9:57 into the opening session and 5:36 into the final stanza. Bella Garza assisted both Jefferson goals.
Also getting into the scoring act in the first half were Khloe Galvan, with an assist from Autumn Reeves; Alayna Hernandez unassisted; Ailean Palacios unassisted; and Madison Weckwerth with an assist from Kynlie Lewis.
The Lady Lions continued their offensive onslaught in the second half as Lewis scored with an assist from Galvan, and Hollyn Duncan’s goal with 4:09 left enforced the eight-goal mercy rule that applies to District 5-4A contests.
“This was a throw back to the first game of the season when there were five different goal scorers,” Walker said. “I tell these girls all the time they have every ability in the world, and it’s every single one of them. They play so well as a team. It’s not just one person making all the goals, it’s about who can step up and put it in the back of the net and a lot of them were able to do it tonight.”
Next for the Lady Lions is a road trip to Stephenville (7-9, 3-0) as last season’s District 5-4A co-champions square off for the first time in 2026. Game time is slated for 5 p.m. Tuesday at Art Briles Stadium.
“That’s the game of the year and everyone looks forward to it,” Walker said. “We go to Stephenville first this year and I told the girls after the game now they get to go play for a district championship. We have to make sure everything we do when we step on the field reflects that and I think they’re up to challenge. I’m excited to see how the compete against Stephenville on Tuesday.”
