Saturday, Feb. 21, artists gathered to show their skills at the annual Paint-Off competition sponsored by the Arts Council of Brownwood, with Brenda Shaw of Brownwood earning the $500 first prize.

Shaw’s colorful art piece, which was untitled, depicted a treed New Mexico landscape and was created with oil sticks in six or less hours (the time limit for the contest).

Second place of $250 was awarded to June Musick, also of Brownwood, for her watercolor/gouache painting titled, “Guadalupe River TX”.

A total of sixteen artists participated in this year’s Paint-Off. Each artist had 6 hours to finish their work in this 2D competition. Each finished piece was made available for purchase through a silent auction at the end of the event. Proceeds of sales were paid to the artists, less a small commission to the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit.

Judging the event was Faith Archambeau of Abilene, TX. Archambeau is a multimedia artist with a degree in Studio Art and serves as the Gallery Manager at the Center for Contemporary Arts in Abilene.

The Stars of Texas wishes to thank all the artists that participated and The Arts Council of Brownwood.
