GATESVILLE – After placing fourth in the final District 5-4A soccer standings a year ago, the Brownwood Lions earned at least a share of their first league title since 2013 with a 2-0 victory at Gatesville Tuesday night.
Behind goals from Aiden Jimenez and Alex Vaquera against Gatesville (6-10, 1-6), Brownwood (10-1-2, 7-0) pushed its unbeaten streak to 11 matches ahead of Friday’s 7:30 p.m. showdown with Stephenville (9-7-4, 6-1) at Gordon Wood Stadium for an outright district championship.
“When the season first started and the schedule first came out our eyes have been set on claiming a district title at home for senior night against Stephenville,” said Lions head coach Michael Westerman. “Our expectations continue to stay high and we have the opportunity to do something for Brownwood soccer that hasn’t been done since 2013, and we’re ready.”
