With thankful hearts for a life devoted to faith and family, we celebrate the life of a beloved Christian, devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Sue Ann (Slaughter) Smith went to be with our Lord and Savior on February 25, 2026.
She was born to Garland and Willie B Slaughter in San Angelo, Texas on September 5, 1944. Sue Ann graduated from Lakeview High School and later attended Angelo College and graduated from Texas Tech University. She moved to Quannah where she met Steve Smith. They joined their lives in marriage on August 11, 1968. Together they raised three loving children (Doug, Deena, and Dennis).
Sue Ann loved her family and prided herself in caring for others. Her faith was the foundation of her life. She lived as a quiet example of Christ’s love through her kindness, patience, and servant’s heart. As a homemaker, she created a home filled with warmth, comfort, and welcome — a place where family gathered, games were played, laughter was shared, and memories were made. When her children were elementary age, she returned to work and enjoyed careers with Val Verde and Presidio County Clerks’ Offices.
For the last 30 years Sue Ann worked for Landmark Title Company of Clovis, New Mexico. She loved to sew and quilt for family and friends; and she especially treasured her time quilting with the Courthouse Quilters in Goldthwaite.
Sue Ann is survived by her husband Steve of 57 years; her three children: Doug (Traci), Deena (Randy), and Dennis (Dana), guiding them with wisdom, strength, and unconditional love. Her greatest joy was her family. Known affectionately as “Gran,” she cherished her six grandchildren — Chelsea (James), Kendra (Dean), Zach (Cayci), Dooley, Ryan, and Megan — and was further blessed with four greatgrandchildren — Conlee, Pruitt, Quintin, and Quincy. Each held a special place in her heart.
Survivors include her sisters JoEllen (Roy); Linda (Johnny); and Diana; and her brother in-law Carl (Donna). She was loved and will be fondly remembered by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Sue Ann was preceded in death by her parents (Garland and Willie B); her father and mother in-law (Milton and Edith Smith); and by her brother in-law (Harry Smith). Her legacy is one of steadfast faith, devotion to family, and a life beautifully lived in service to others.
She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who were blessed to know her. Her family recalls that Proverbs 31: 10-31 describes Sue Ann best. In lieu of flowers, family requests that memorial contributions be made in Sue Ann’s name to Shriners Children’s Hospital (Shrinerschildrens.org); Tunnel to Towers (T2T.org); or to a local charity of one’s choice. Memorial services are under the direction of Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home of Goldthwaite, Texas.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March, 14, 2026 at 11:00 am at Stacy-Wilkins Chapel in Goldthwaite, Texas. Visitation will be held prior to her memorial starting at 9:30 am at Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home.
