SAN ANGELO – The Brownwood Lions’ two-game win streak came to end with a pair of losses at Class 6A San Angelo Central, 11-1 and 6-0, in doubleheader baseball action Thursday.
In the 6-0 loss to Central (10-5-1), the Lions (5-10) were limited to three hits – a pair of singles from Cannon Calvert and one single by Harrison Sweaney.
Sweaney and Shaxton Simpson teamed up to yield three earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and five walks. The Brownwood defense committed two errors.
In the 11-1 defeat, the Lions took the lead in the top of the first inning as Robbie Robinson started the game with a single and courtesy-runner Aden Smith scored on Garrett Wilkerson’s two-out base hit.
The Lions mustered just three hits the rest of the contest – another from Robinson, and singles from Calvert and Calder Damron – to account for the offense.
Central grabbed a 5-1 advantage in the bottom of the second inning and tacked on four more runs in the fifth and the last two runs in the sixth.
Logan Flores and Blayne Stegemoller saw action on the mound, surrendering six earned runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Brownwood were charged with four errors defensively.
The Lions will next host Gatesville at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
